The Meseda and Rabul fields lie within block H of the onshore in the highly prospective West Gharib concession, located at the western margin of the Gulf of Suez. The Rabul field lies c. 3 km northwest of the Meseda field and is connected to the CPF at Meseda. SDX Energy holds 50% working interest in the block, with Dublin International Petroleum holding the 50% operated interest.
Heavy oil is produced from the Asl Formation at the Meseda field, and from the Yusr and Bakr Formations at the Rabul field.
In 2021, a 10-year extension for both Meseda and Rabul was agreed with GPC, extending the licence to 9 November 2031.
In 2022, much of the activity in the West Gharib concession was
centred around the an infill drilling campaign.
West Gharib
- 100MMBO in place across Meseda and Rabul Fields
- Cumulative production of 11.1 MMBOE
- Current gross production of 5,580 bopd
- 16 producing wells
During 2022, eight infill wells and one exploration well (Rabul Deep-1) were drilled. The Rabul Deep-1 well was a dry-hole but is waiting on workover to convert it to a water-injector for the Rabul Field. The infill campaign will continue in 2023, with two infill development wells in the Rabul Field and an exploration well in the area to the south-east of Rabul.
The goal of the development campaign is to fully exploit the volumes in the West Gharib fields.
