Social Responsibility
SDX seeks to make a positive impact for all of our stakeholders by contributing to the economic and social development of the communities in which we operate by:
- developing local capability
- using a sustainable approach to our developments
- protecting and promoting human rights
- operating in an ethical manner
Local workforce
SDX contributes to the economic and social development of our countries of operation by aligning local priorities and business cultures with our operations. As a result, we have a strong focus on employing and nurturing local talent: of our 49 permanent salaried roles across Egypt and Morocco, 96% are filled by national citizens, a fact that we are very proud of. We also prioritise the recruitment of local hires at our operating sites and prefer to use domestic suppliers and contractors where possible.
Community engagement
SDX proactively engages with local communities impacted by our operations, as we recognise the importance of giving back to our local communities.
The SDX team worked with the Governor of Gharbia State, where the South Disouq concession is located, to identify urgent community requirements. SDX was pleased to donate vital medical equipment to two local hospitals in the area to assist with the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which consisted of 13 monitors and 13 BPAP machines, with the equipment presented on 12th July 2021.
Continuing our engagement with local communities who are affected by our operations, in 2022 SDX was delighted to provide three hospitals near our South Disouq operation with a ventilator each to support the medical needs of the local population in Gharbia State.
SDX is delighted to be supporting the Dar Lekbira organisation in the city of Kenitra, which is close to SDX’s area of operations. Dar Lekbira is an NGO, founded in 2006, and has no political or religious affiliations, and its goal is to help children in distress in Kenitra and surrounding areas. SDX will be donating winter clothing, school supplies and non-perishable food to assist the organisation.
In 2019 SDX, working with community leaders, identified that the Kafr El Gezira-Zifta Primary School, close to our South Disouq site, was likely to close due to the disrepair of its facilities. SDX contributed towards the refurbishment of the site, allowing pupils to continue to attend.
Our in-country teams are mandated to seek out and evaluate further opportunities, with a focus on education and healthcare.
